The site sits on the edge of the popular East Devon village of Aylesbeare. Located 8 miles east of the city of Exeter. The Grade II listed 13th century Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary lies at the heart of the parish and is the oldest building in the village.

Originally a farming parish, the village has a tranquil feel and is surrounded by farmland punctuated by narrow lanes and tall earth banks. Aylesbeare has a village hall and it lies within the catchment for the excellent West Hill Primary School.
